Swimming pool ground water is a wide spread problem for swimming pool owners. Swimming pool ground water is an act of god. It is caused by many things such as excessive rainfall, shifting sub surface streams or rivers, shifting underground lakes or ponds, etc. Due to the fact that ground water is mother nature at work the homeowner is reponsibile for any damage caused by groundwater.
The following is a list of tell-tale signs that your swimming pool is suffering from a swimming pool ground water issue.
Your swimming pool has literally popped out of the ground.
This will only happen with gunite or fiberglass pools. The pool shell itself essentially has become a boat and has been lifted out of the ground because the pressure from the ground water was higher than the pressure created by the water inside the pool. This type of damage is usually a total loss.
Your swimming pool liner has come out of the track in more than 10 feet lengths.
With vinyl lined swimming pools this can happen when the ground water pushes the liner up the wall which causes the liner bead to pop out of the liner track. The picture above shows what this looks like and is one of the best examples of a clear cut case of swimming pool ground water damage.
Your swimming pool wall foam has been pushed up the wall and bunched up under the liner or coping.
Vinyl lined pools have wall foam on the vertical walls behind the liner. Swimming pool ground water is the only force that has the power to physically push the wall foam up the wall behind the liner and cause it to “bunch up” at the top of the wall under the pool liner. Once again, the picture above shows what this looks like and is one of the best examples of a clear cut case of swimming pool ground water damage.
Your pool liner is “floating”.
If your pool liner floats off the bottom of the pool you can often times see where the most ground water is under the liner by where the liner is floating the most.
The cost of fixing ground water issues in vinyl pools is $1000 to $3000. The cost of fixing ground water issues in gunite pools can be as high as $100,000! This is because the pool must be demolished and rebuilt in many circumstances.
