I am often asked how much it costs to hire a professional pool service in Atlanta on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly basis. There are five basic variables that affect the cost of pool service. These three factors are listed from the biggest cost driver to the smallest.
Type of Pool System
There are three basic types of pool systems; Standard Chlorinators, Salt Chlorinators, and Drinkable Pool Water Systems. These are the biggest costs of pool service because they represent the largest business expense to the pool service provider. Swimming pools equipped with a standard chlorinator will cost about $20 more per visit simply due to the cost of chlorine. Pools with salt chlorinators will cost slightly less because the pool service company does not need to provide chlorine for your pool. The pool company will charge a little extra per visit for other pool chemicals used in the swimming pool as well as problems generally arising from the corrosive nature of salt in the water. You should expect to pay about $10 more per visit if you have a salt system. The lowest price being offered today by swimming pool service companies is for pools equipped with drinkable pool water systems. These pools do not have salt or chlorine in the water so you are basically paying only for the labor and the fuel to provide the service.
Insured or Not Insured
82% of swimming pool companies in Atlanta do not carry general liability and worker’s compensation insurance. This means that if you fail to ask to see an insurance certificate prior to hiring a pool company you have an 82% chance of taking full responsibility for any injuries incurred on your property. We’ve all heard of the lawsuits arising from uninsured service personnel suffering an injury while on your property. Don’t be foolish. Demand that insurance certificate before hiring anyone to perform any work on your property. Uninsured companies can charge a little bit less because they aren’t paying $17000 per year in insurance premiums. Saving $20 per month is not worth the risk of ruining your financial life. You will also notice that the handful of pool companies in your area that are insured will almost always provide a higher quality service then the rest.
Length of Commitment and Pre-Booking
The longer you are willing to commit to a pool company the lower the price will generally be. Many pool companies offer 10 to 20 percent discounts for signing up for the entire season or keeping your pool opened year round. Other pool companies may offer discounts on services like pool openings and pool closings if you pre-book the service well in advance. For example, you may receive 25% off of your pool closing if you schedule the pool closing on the day of your pool opening.
I hope this information has helped you to make a better purchasing decision regarding your next pool services.
