The most common cause of waterborne illness in America is cryptosporidium. A recent study showed just how resilient cryptosporidium can be in swimming pools that use salt and chlorine for sanitation and the results were shocking. Even when chlorine is raised 8 times the level in which it is safe to swim it still took 23 hours for the chlorine to start killing crypto. This not good.
The inability of salt or chlorine systems to effectively kill cryptosporidium has led to a significant increase in the use of high-tech alternative swimming pool sanitizers that are capable of killing bacteria (including crypto) on contact. Drinkable Pool Water Systems use multiple technologies to attack bacteria and other contaminants in the water as well as high tech filtration methods to filter out the dead or dying contaminants efficiently.
